TLDR: The Great British Baking Show Cake Stand is the discontinued KitchenCraft Cake Stand.
The Great British Baking Show cake stand is the discontinued KitchenCraft cake stand. I looked in vain for three weeks for The Great British Baking Show cake stand, and then in season 14 episode 6 there is a picture of the cake stand upside down clear enough to read the website for KitchenCraft, let alone the massive "KitchenCraft" logo. I'm not sour or anything...
The KitchenCraft cake stand is a 12 inch white ceramic cake stand with a pedestal stand. It stands roughly 5 inches high and has a level flat top.
These cake stands look quite nice on the show, as they're all white and not distracting with their geometry. They were probably chosen, again, because they're made by KitchenCraft an English company, but KitchenCraft seems to be on its way out in favor of other brands own by Lifetime Brands, eg. MasterClass and Sweetly Does It.
Thus the show purchased some number of stands a while ago and have been using them ever since to give a nice uniform look. All lined up for technicals during cake week they do paint a pretty picture.
However, the stands were discontinued some number of years ago, and can not be found for purchase anywhere. Thus there are no promotional images, and there are no places you can find one for purchase even if you wanted to. Maybe Ebay - but I've seen 0 in the last couple months there.
Cake Stands are for decoration, thats it and thats all. They look great and can really up your presentation, especially for family and friends.
The only thing to consider with a cake stand is storage. Its not typically something that is being utilized 100 percent of the time. So its going to be in a closet or cupboard somewhere, probably in a box. So make sure you have space.
Okay - so The Great British Baking Show Cake Stand by KitchenCraft is out of the question but you still want a cake stand, what options do you have?
Libbey Selene Glass Cake Stand with Dome
(Amazon)
This is one of the items where I never really saw any cake stands that were simple but amazing. They all seemed a bit boring to me, so why not have some fun with the cake stand? It comes out every other month or so, it may as well be a joyful occasion.
The first option, the boring one, is the Sweetly Does It Porcelain Cake Stand (Amazon - UK). This is the replacement to the KitchenCraft cake stand. It has a shorter, stumpier base with only the convex curve (instead of a pretty double curve). So basically its a platter sitting on a dome. They advertise it as "as seen on TV!" but I'm confident the old one was on TV - because I have eyes.
The second option, which kicks up the opulence a bit is the Libbey Selene Glass Cake Stand with Dome (Amazon). This is a glass cake stand with a nice domed lid. I like the way this one looks, and if you're trying to be fancy with your cake this feels like a good fit.
Finally, my favorite, which sat in my Amazon cart for weeks is the La Jolíe Muse Cupcake Stand (Amazon - 10" copy UK). Sadly this only has an 8.3 inch platter - and thus why I don't own one. If you're making 8 inch cakes this is perfect and quite cute. The little bunny holding the platter makes me happy, and I'm sure it would be a cute touch for any small cake. This is a handmade piece so it is not dishwasher or microwave safe. There are a TON of copies floating around Amazon, so I guess this was not copyrightable.
